Two intertwined issues that dictate most of my political alignment are poverty and inequality. These are the two reasons I’ve voted for Democrats in every single general election in my adult life, and they’re also the reasons I’ve aligned myself to the left of Democratic Party leadership. I would change my political alignment assuming I became convinced another political movement could reduce poverty and inequality more effectively than the Democrats and/or left-wing ideology, but why are these things two of my most important issues? Today, let’s take a high-level look at poverty, talk about why it’s bad, and save inequality for another day.
